Cattle Raisers
elect officers for 2006-2007
SAN ANTONIO, Texas, March 29, 2006—Members of Texas and
Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association elected officers for
2006-2007 during the final session of their 129th annual
convention today in San Antonio.
Dr.
C. R. “Dick” Sherron from Beaumont was re-elected as
president; Jon Means, Van Horn, first vice president; and G. Dave
Scott, Richmond, second vice president and secretary.
New
honorary directors are Jim Brizendine of Winona; Scott Felton,
Waco; Dan Hankamer, Hankamer; Robert H. Moore, College Station; A.
B. Wharton, Vernon; and Gene Willingham, Vernon.
New
directors are Van Baize, Muenster; Marty Harris, Tilden; Rick
Peebles, Baytown; Tim Pennell, Cuero; Richard Thorpe III, Winters;
and Tom Woodward, Decatur.
Texas
and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association is a 129-year-old
trade organization whose 13,600 members manage approximately 5.4
million cattle on 70.3 million acres of range and pasture land,
primarily in Texas and Oklahoma.
The
organization was initially established to fight cattle theft.
Today, law enforcement is still the backbone of the organization,
with 29 field inspectors who are commissioned by the Texas
Department of Public Safety and/or the Oklahoma State Bureau of
Investigation.
TSCRA
also has 80 market inspectors who identify more than 4.5 million
cattle annually at 119 auction markets in Texas. The information
they collect is forwarded to TSCRA headquarters where it is
entered into a computer database.
When
livestock are reported missing or stolen, their identifying
characteristics are retrieved from the
database and forwarded to more than 700 law enforcement
agencies nationwide.
TSCRA
is also recognized as an advocate for the cattle industry
statewide and nationally on legislation, animal care, regulatory
matters and other things that affect the best interests of cattle
producers.
