Raisers name new Special Ranger for
East Texas
FORT WORTH, Texas,
July 7, 2007—Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers
Association has named James W. “Jim” Vanover II Special
Ranger for District 13, covering 12 East Texas counties. He
will be based in Carthage.
Jim has 26-plus years of experience in law
enforcement and in that capacity has worked extensively with
livestock sale barns.
He was born in Nacogdoches, Texas, and graduated
from Nacogdoches High School. After attending Nacogdoches
High School, he went to work for the city fire department.
After a short time, he transferred to the police
department; it was there he found his calling. He attended
the police academy in 1976 and, after graduating, joined the
Nacogdoches Police Department. He worked as a patrol officer
and detective in the criminal investigation division.
Jim moved to Carthage in 1992 as a patrol officer
and in 1993 was promoted to assistant chief. He retired from
that position on June 30, 2007.
He is active in several community organizations
and in the past participated in team roping. Jim and his
wife Mamie have a daughter, Sarah, and a son, Jake.
TSCRA District 13 includes the following
counties: Angelina, Gregg, Harrison, Rusk, Marion,
Nacogdoches, Panola, San Augustine, Shelby, Smith, Upshur
and Wood.
Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association is a
130-year-old trade organization whose 14,800 members manage
approximately 3.7 million cattle on 96.5 million acres of
range and pasture land, primarily in Texas and Oklahoma.
