Commissioner Staples requests rehearing on court ruling that threatens Texas agriculture, public health
Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples is joining the American Farm Bureau and dozens of other agriculture organizations across the nation in requesting a rehearing on a ruling regarding pesticide applications used in agriculture. Recently, a three-judge panel from the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that farmers and ranchers must obtain an additional permit prior to applying regulated and approved pesticides near water sources. Prior to this new ruling, agricultural producers already adhered to extensive regulations concerning licensing, registration and application of pesticides. more
Kirk to USMEF: Trading partners must play by rules too
In his first address to an agricultural trade association as a member of President Obama's Cabinet, U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk told members of the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) that he is committed to making U.S. exports a cornerstone of the nation's economic recovery. In order to do so, however, he emphasized that trading partners must honor their commitments and grant fair and consistent market access to U.S. products. more
