TSCRA participates in USDA NAIS listening session
TSCRA President Dave Scott and TSCRA Director and Marketing Committee Chair Missy Bonds participated in a USDA listening session on the National Animal Identification System (NAIS) in Austin. Both gave public comment and participated in work group sessions at the all day meeting on behalf of TSCRA. more
Economist sees more ag regulations coming
Globalization of agriculture production and food will likely mean more regulations on producers and suppliers, said Robert G.F. Spitze, professor emeritus of agricultural and consumer economics at the University of Illinois. "Where national boundaries and oceans once separated us, we are now in a world-wide market. Herbicides can help with pond management, but be careful
Ponds that are overgrown with pond weeds are not only unsightly but also very difficult to fish or even enjoy a cool summer swim. Herbicides are a tool that can be used to help manage these weeds. However, while they are a quick means of knocking back pond weeds, care should be taken in the use and selection of herbicides. more
Where have all the quail gone?
Texas AgriLife Extension Service will answer this question during a symposium to be held at the Meridian Civic Center in Meridian on Wednesday, May 27. Topics to be covered include research and conservation needs, native grass restoration, prescribed burn, and quail cooperatives. Pre-registration before May 25 is $10, registration at the door will be $15. more
Texas crop, weather, 5-20-09
Conditions varied widely across Texas, with crops off to a good start in some areas thanks to rains. As for other parts of the state, it was either too much, too little or too late, according to reports from Texas AgriLife Extension Service personnel. In North Texas, too much rain threatened to drown out wheat and corn. In much of South Texas and Southwest, Southeast, Far West and Coastal Bend regions, many crops not under irrigation were not growing or declared a total loss by insurance adjusters. more
