Senate passes eminent domain bill
The bill to provide a more property owner friendly eminent domain process was unanimously approved by the Texas State Senate today. Senate Bill 18, introduced by Senator Craig Estes (R-Wichita Falls), reforms the process of eminent domain and condemnation for property owners in the state of Texas. SB 18 now moves to the House for consideration. more


May 5 BQA meeting in La Grange cancelled
The Beef Quality Producer Assurance training planned for Tuesday, May 5 in La Grange has been cancelled due to influenza concerns. TSCRA special ranger investigates large cattle theft case - Anderson County man indicted
An Anderson County man has been indicted by a grand jury for theft of 225 head of cattle. TSCRA Special Ranger Rolando Garcia heads the investigation. The Webb County Grand Jury handed down an indictment on 49-year-old Vance Walters, of Cayuga, Texas. The indictment alleges that Walters stole and dispersed of 225 head of cattle from Jesus Garcia Gonzalez, a rancher whose cattle operation is based in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. more


Wild hogs: No indication of flu danger
You may catch the flu from your sick hunting buddy, but there's no evidence that you'll catch it from domestic or wild hogs, according to the Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC). There is no evidence that the new strain of H1N1 influenza is in domestic or wild hogs. This disease is being spread from person to person. more


Two remaining trich meetings to be held this week
TSCRA's series of trichomoniasis educational programs co-sponsored by Fort Dodge Animal Health continued last week with events in San Saba, Graham, Eastland and Marlin. Area producers and veterinarians gathered to hear an overview of the disease, as well as the newly-implemented trichomoniasis regulations. Two trichomoniasis educational programs remain. One will be held at the Bowie Livestock Auction, Bowie, tonight, and the final program will be at Cagle's Steak House, Lubbock, on Thursday. Both meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. and kick off with a complimentary dinner. more
