Louisiana implements emergency trichomoniasis regulations
Louisiana Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain, D.V.M., said he is initiating emergency rules to prevent the spread of bovine trichomoniasis in state cattle herds. Trichomoniasis or "trich", is a bovine venereal disease that can cause substantial reproductive and economic losses in cow-calf operations. Strain said the emergency rules went into effect March 18. more


TDA secures exemption to control sandburs in pastures, helping hay producers
The Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) has been granted approval by the Environmental Protection Agency to issue a Section 18 specific exemption allowing the use of pendimethalin (Prowl H20) to control sand bur species in Bermuda grass pastures and hay fields. more


Emergency herbicide exemption granted for sandbur control in Oklahoma
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has granted a specific exemption to allow Oklahoma producers to use the chemical Prowl H2O to control sandbur infestations in Bermuda grass from now until June 30. The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry also say producers should also consider treating pastures for invasive weeds such as musk thistle at this time. 24D type products are effective during this time of year. more


Beef tastes great and strengthens Oklahoma economy
Oklahoma's cattle operations are dollars on the hoof for the state economy, valued at more than $2 billion annually. "Beef cattle production represents the largest single segment of Oklahoma and American agriculture. There are more than 800,000 beef producers in the U.S. The efficiency of American animal agriculture produces 25 percent of the world's beef supply with only 10 percent of the cattle..." more


Annual Imported Fire Ant Conference to be held April 6-9 in Oklahoma City
The 2009 Imported Fire Ant and Invasive Ant Conference will be held April 6-9, 2009, in Oklahoma City, Okla. The conference will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 2945 Northwest Expressway and hotel reservations must be made by March 23 to get the group rate. more
