Mexico to exclude U.S. meat from tariffs
Wire reports indicate U.S. meat exports will be excluded from Mexico's tariff increases planned for 90 U.S. agricultural and industrial products. A spokesman from Mexico's agriculture ministry said the list does not include beef, pork or poultry. Mexico's national meat council also confirmed all meat products would be exempt. Mexico is expected to publish a complete list of U.S. goods to be hit with the duties sometime yet this week. more
Oklahoma House Ag Committee okays livestock preemption bill
The Oklahoma House Ag Committee met to consider three measures on Wednesday morning- and SB452 was probably the headline measure of the group. This is the so called "livestock preemption" bill that would prevent local cities from dictating animal welfare regulations on livestock operations in their jurisdiction. more
AgriLife Extension helping South Central Texas residents cope with drought
Though recent rains brought some relief to South Central Texas, the region is still plagued by "exceptional" drought and residents need help in dealing with a variety of drought-related issues, said Texas AgriLife Extension Service experts. To help inform area farmers and ranchers affected by the drought, AgriLife Extension has emphasized drought-related topics during its seminars and educational outreach programs. more

March 24 Cattlemen to Cattlemen to feature Texans, drought
The March 24 episode of NCBA's Cattlemen to Cattlemen is set to include a producer-education segment focused on the ongoing drought and featuring Cisco cattleman Taylor Yeates of Leeray Ranch. Leeray Ranch received the 2008 Outstanding Rangeland Stewardship award from the Texas Section, Society for Range Management, and TSCRA.
Also featured will be Charles Hart, a range specialist with Texas AgriLife Extension Service in Stephenville and Dow AgroSciences Field Scientist Chad Cummings. They will discuss considerations for the current grazing season, along with the role weed and brush control — and careful grazing management — play in helping the land heal after drought, as well as in preparing for the next one.
Cattlemen to Cattlemen is a 60-minute weekly news magazine show that focuses on cattle industry news, markets, producer education and producer profiles. The program premieres each Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. EST on RFD-TV, which you can find on DirecTV Channel 345, Dish Network Channel 231 and many local cable systems.
