Vesicular stomatitis confirmed in New Mexico; Texas enhances entry requirements
Dr. David Fly, New Mexico state veterinarian, has notified the Texas Animal Health Commission that vesicular stomatitis has been laboratory-confirmed in a horse in De Baca County, N.M. The premises has been under quarantine since June 18. Texas has confirmed vesicular stomatitis in Starr County, Texas, and a number of states have imposed entry requirements or restrictions on Texas livestock. PLEASE call the state or country of destination prior to shipping livestock. Texas will enhance its entry requirements for livestock entering from New Mexico. more
Gov. Perry announces special session for July 1
Gov. Rick Perry announced Thursday that a special session of the Texas Legislature will begin on Wednesday, July 1, at 10 a.m. Eminent domain reform was not listed in the proclamation, however, TSCRA will be working to get eminent domain reform in the TxDOT legislation. more
U.S. may miss beef export target on global recession
Beef exports from the U.S., the world's largest producer, may miss a 7 percent growth forecast made by an industry group for this year as the global recession spurs consumers to cut spending on expensive foods. more
