TSCRA special ranger arrests Welch, Okla., man for cattle theft
A Welch, Okla., man was arrested for theft of 65 head of cattle by TSCRA Special Ranger John Cummings and Lt. Jack Woodall of the Craig County Sheriff's Office. John "Ted" Linthicum, a 49-year-old man from Welch, Okla., surrendered to the Craig County Jail on June 13 after confessing he had sold 65 head of cattle at the Fredonia Livestock Auction in Kansas for a total of $39,448.47. more

Eminent domain fight's just starting, leader says
Kenneth Dierschke says that the eminent domain legislation that will go before Texas voters in November is an important first step in fixing property rights for farmers and ranchers in the Lone Star State but that it doesn't go far enough. He believes there is an important next step needed to complete protection of rural land from being taken for public projects. For true reform, there needs to be additional protections for farmers and ranchers, such as compensation for lost access to their property, offers that represent fair market value and the right to repurchase land not used for the condemning purpose. more
Fish and Wildlife Service seeks proposals from states for 2010 endangered species grants
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is seeking proposals from states and U.S. territories interested in obtaining federal grant assistance to acquire land or conduct planning for endangered species conservation efforts. For fiscal year 2010, the President's budget request for the Cooperative Endangered Species Conservation Fund includes approximately $100 million in grant funding for conservation planning activities and habitat acquisition benefitting federally protected species. Proposals must be submitted to the appropriate Service Regional Offices by Aug. 19, 2009. more

For the week ending June 20, feeder cattle prices at Texas auctions were mostly steady to $3 lower per hundredweight, with a few areas $2 higher. Recent declines in finished cattle prices and ongoing losses by cattle feeders continue to pressure the market. Fed cattle prices were near unchanged from a week ago. more
