Your help is needed to stop Congress from passing the Clean Water Restoration Act
TSCRA has received word that the Senate will take up the Clean Water Restoration Act (CWRA) tomorrow. This act would significantly expand federal jurisdiction over private ranches. This bill amounts to nothing less than a giant federal land grab and would be disastrous to U.S. agriculture. more


A few beef export markets remain strong, but total exports expected to fall in 2009
U.S. beef exports are expected to decline about 8 percent in 2009 to 1.744 billion pounds. Although affected by weak foreign demand overall and a stronger U.S. dollar compared with last year, some export markets have experienced growth so far this year. more


Daily Livestock Report: U.S. pasture and range conditions
Pastures and ranges across the country continue to be in much better shape compared to a year ago and five year average levels. This has eased the immediate pressures on cow-calf producers and slowed the pace of beef cow slaughter, helping offset the increase in the number of dairy cows coming to market. Longer term, however, the industry still will have to content with a feed cost structure that is out of synch with beef prices paid in the domestic market. more


West Nile virus detected in Harris County
West Nile virus has been detected for the first time in 2009 in Texas, said an expert with the Texas AgriLife Extension Service. The virus was found June 9 in mosquitoes by Harris County's mosquito control department, said Dr. Mark Johnsen, AgriLife Extension medical entomologist based in College Station. The mosquito species that carries the virus, known as the southern house mosquito, is a common pest found in backyards and parks. more


Texas crop, weather, 6-18-09
Most of the 750,000 acres of dryland cotton in the Texas High Plains looks "very rough," said a Texas AgriLife Extension Service agronomist. But irrigated cotton, though late in many areas, has dodged the bullets of hail and high winds and looks "decent." more
