USDA announces new agreement allowing live cattle, beef and beef products from U.S. to be exported to Nicaragua
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced May 29 that Nicaragua will allow live U.S. cattle, as well as beef and beef products from cattle of all ages to be exported to that Central American country. The agreement worked out between the two countries became effective May 5, 2009. With this agreement, all of Central America, except for El Salvador, is now open to U.S. cattle, beef and beef products. more
Study says uninsured are costly for all
The average family with health insurance shells out an extra $1,000 a year in premiums to pay for health care for the uninsured, a new report finds. And the average individual with private coverage pays an extra $370 a year because of the cost-shifting, which happens when someone without medical insurance gets care at an emergency room or elsewhere and then doesn't pay. more
TPWD dove season framework gets Commission approval
Changes proposed for the 2009-2010 Texas dove season, including a 70-day season and 15-bird daily bag statewide, received approval from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission. The season framework change is part of a new adaptive harvest management regulations package developed for the 14 states, including Texas, within the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Central Management Unit. more
