TSCRA loses long-time Special Ranger and good friend Eddie Foreman
TSCRA Special Ranger Eddie Foreman, District 15, passed away early Thursday morning, May 8, from complications following a major heart attack. Eddie, 64, had joined TSCRA in 1978 and was six months shy of celebrating 30 years with the association. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 10, at Woodway United Methodist Church, 9191 Woodway Drive in Waco. more
Feedstock makes a difference when feeding distiller's grains
When it comes to using distiller's grains in finishing rations of
High Plains cattle, Texas AgriLife Research scientist Dr. Jim MacDonald says
the type of grain used makes all the difference. "I believe we can do it
successfully, provided we have distiller's grains that are equivalent in
quality to those used in the North Plains states…" more
NRCS extends sign-up for 2008 Conservation Security
Program until May 30
The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) has extended the sign-up period for the 2008 Conservation Security Program (CSP) until May 30, 2008. Landowners in 51 eligible watersheds across the country, including the Concho Watershed in Texas, will have two additional weeks to apply. more
Simmer down now -- keeping state's wildfires in check
So far this year Texas wildfires have scorched about half
the acres that burned in 2006 when 12 people and thousands of livestock died.
Thus far in 2008, just one person has died and management of wildfire breakouts
across the state has improved thanks to the availability of more effective tools. more
