TSCRA members represent producers on Texas Beef Council

The Texas Beef Council's board of directors will have broad representation from the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association in 2008. TBC seated its new board to oversee the Texas beef checkoff program for the 2007-08 fiscal year that began Oct. 1.

The TBC board consists entirely of beef producers providing representation of the state through geographic region, industry segment, organization affiliation and at-large members.

TSCRA representatives to the board include:

  • Crawford Edwards of Fort Worth, a commercial cattle operator, will serve on TBC's executive committee that acts on behalf of TBC's full board between scheduled meetings. In addition, he will serve as vice chair of the product committee that approves and evaluates Texas checkoff programs in foodservice, retail and consumer promotion. Edwards will also serve as chair of the TBC audit and budget committee.  On a national level, Edwards will represent TBC on the Federation of State Beef Councils.

  • Linda Joy Stovall of Wharton County, a commercial cattle operator, will serve her second term on the TBC board. Stovall is the director of the NewFirst National Bank along with seven other locations from Victoria to Houston, Texas. She is also active in her family hunting, ranching and farming operations in Brewster, Calhoun, Jackson, Matagorda and Wharton counties. Stovall will serve on the TBC communications committee that oversees checkoff-funded programs in the areas of public relations, issues management and producer communications. She will also represent TBC on the Federation of State Beef Councils.

  • Dr. Richard Thorpe III of Winters, a cow-calf, stocker and feeder operator, will serve a second term on the TBC board. Thorpe, also a doctor of medicine, serves on TBC's communications committee that oversees checkoff-funded programs in the areas of public relations, issues management and producer communications. He will also represent TBC on the Federation of State Beef Councils.
  • TBC conducts the $1-per-head beef checkoff program for Texas beef producers. Its mission is to increase beef demand in the state through programs of beef promotion, education and research. TBC also helps fund national and international beef checkoff programs to increase marketing opportunities for the entire U.S. beef industry.
