FDA concludes cloning food animals
is safe
After
years of detailed study and analysis, the Food and Drug
Administration has concluded that meat and milk from clones of
cattle, swine, and goats, and the offspring of clones from any
species traditionally consumed as food, are as safe to eat as food
from conventionally bred animals.

Texas agricultural agencies change
names, renew missions
Two state agricultural
agencies that have served Texans for a combined 224 years are
beginning 2008 with new names and renewed missions.

Small acreage landowner webcourses
available
Three online courses
designed for agricultural novices will be offered by the Texas
AgriLife Extension Service, beginning Jan. 22. The courses were
organized to meet the demand for information from the growing group
of small-acreage landowners.

Planes used in fight against
rabies in foxes
To
contain an area of fox rabies, state health officials are dropping
hundreds of thousands of vaccine-laden biscuits from airplanes over
34,000 square miles in West and Central Texas. The effort follows a
separate airdrop of baits aimed at coyotes along the Texas-Mexico
border, to prevent a recurrence of canine rabies from spilling over.

February feral hog workshop announced for Bexar County
Texas AgriLife Extension
Service will present a feral hog workshop on Feb. 19 at the Bexar
Bowling Social Hall in Zuehl. "This workshop is for producers and
landowners. Feral hogs are becoming a growing problem for small
landowners, and they create a very real economic concern for the
producer..."
