U.S., Mexican officials meet to discuss NAFTA
United States and Mexican officials met Thursday to discuss the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which was fully implemented on Jan. 1, 2008. "NAFTA has been a positive force for our respective agricultural sectors, creating not only dramatic growth in two-way agricultural trade, but providing our farmers, ranchers and processors with the potential to take advantage of new export opportunities..." more
 

Live cattle imports from Canada climb higher in 2007
With the exception of modest purebred cattle sales to other countries, virtually all Canadian exports of live cattle, slaughter and feeder, are destined for the United States. The highest level on record was 2002 when Canada exported a total of 1.7 million head of live cattle to the United States. more
 

Japan lifts ban on beef from U.S. plant
Japan's agricultural ministry said Friday it has lifted a ban on beef imports from U.S. meatpacker Cargill Inc., after concluding that the company took proper measures to prevent a problematic shipment that had forced the suspension last year. more
 

Candidates sought for Texas Beef Ambassador Speech Competition
The Texas Beef Ambassador Competition gives the beef industry's young leaders a chance to compete for $3,000 and the title of Texas Beef Ambassador.  The checkoff-funded program is open to all youth between the ages of 17 to 20, but not over 20 as of Jan. 1, 2009. The competition will take place in Corpus Christi on March 15 and deadline to enter is Feb. 1. more
