Border
fence deadline passes; fight may shift to courts
The federal
government is preparing to go to court to force dozens of property
owners in the southwestern U.S. to give it access to their land for
possible construction on it of a U.S.-Mexico border fence. The
federal government is readying 102 cases to gain entry to lands
along the border owned by private individuals, local governments and
others.

EPA awards over $2 million to TCEQ
water quality program
The
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded $2,026,097 to the
Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to administer the
state's base water quality program under their Performance
Partnership Grant.

Ethanol
capacity in the U.S. tops 7.5 billion gallons
The U.S. ethanol production
capacity has risen 40 percent since last year to 7.5 billion gallons
per year. Despite some ethanol companies suspending or delaying
construction, production capacity continues to grow.

and weather report, 1-7-08
Fluctuating temperatures
were evident with below freezing temperatures earlier in the week
and temperatures in the upper 70s near the end of the week. Small
grains continued to struggle due to lack of rainfall.
