Department issues import order on cattle
The
Nebraska Department of Agriculture has issued an import order to
help protect the health of Nebraska's livestock as a result of
Trichomoniasis infections in surrounding states. The order went into
effect Jan. 1, 2008.

attorney general's office requests comments on Landowner's Bill of
Rights
HB 1495, from the 2007 legislative
session, requires the attorney general to draft a document that
explains in plain language the rights of property owners during
condemnation. Comments are being accepted on the proposed Landowner
Bill of Rights until Jan. 18, 2008.

feed numbers up
Producers
placed 510,000 head in commercial feedlots during November 2007, up
17 percent from a year ago but down 27 percent from December 2007.
Texas commercial feeders marketed 490,000 head during November 2007,
down 2 percent from 2006 and down 8 percent from December 2007.

Transportation Commission chairman Ric Williamson dies
Ric
Williamson, the Texas Transportation Commission chairman and an
advocate for Governor Rick Perry's toll road policy, died early
Sunday at a hospital in Weatherford. Williamson, 55, who had been on
the five-member commission since 2001 and chairman since January
2004, died of a heart attack.

MSDT Acquisition Corp., an
affiliate of the Hawthorne, N.J., based company Premio Foods Inc.,
is reportedly in the process of buying all of the Topps Meat Co.
equipment, trademarks and beef.
