Forage seminar readies producers for spring growing season

Texas AgriLife Extension Service will conduct a forage seminar beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Feb. 5, 2008, in the First Baptist Church in Cross Plains, Texas.

Five Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be available to those staying for the entire seminar. Robert Pritz, AgriLife Extension agent in Callahan County, said the seminar will provide producers with information on forage management strategies to help them produce uniform, high quality forage to meet their production goals.

These strategies will include management techniques on existing Bermuda grass pastures as well as native pasture. Topics will include basic forage and soil sampling management, forage production economics, Bermuda grass management, and native and improved grass variety selection.

The seminar is being presented by the AgriLife Extension offices in Brown, Callahan, Coleman and Eastland counties.

Individual pre-registration, which includes lunch, is $5 by Feb. 1 and $10 thereafter. For more information, call the AgriLife Extension office in Callahan County at 325/854-5835.
