Ag Commissioner Todd Staples urges private
property owners to stand up in defense of property rights
Texas
Commissioner of Agriculture Todd Staples has issued a statement
concerning the importance of protecting private property owners'
rights in connection with the construction of new highways. TXDOT is
currently holding public hearings across the state concerning the
I-69/Trans Texas Corridor project. The Commissioner believes it is
crucial for private property owners to stand up and make their
voices heard in defending their property rights.

NCBA, TSCRA work together on policy
resolutions
At the 2008 NCBA Cattle Industry Annual Convention in Reno, Nev., in
early February, TSCRA representatives pushed for a number of policy
resolutions to be considered by NCBA for approval on a national
level. Of those submitted, four resolutions were passed and a fifth
was appointed as a directive to NCBA.

BSE case confirmed in Alberta
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has confirmed bovine
spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) in a six-year-old dairy cow from
Alberta. The animal's carcass is under CFIA control, and no part of
it entered the human food or animal feed systems.

TDA market recap, 2-25-08
For the week ending Feb.
23, 2008, feeder steer prices at Texas auctions were again higher
than both the previous week and a year earlier. Heavy movement into
feedlots last fall reduced current supplies while demand remains
good, especially for higher quality offerings. Fed cattle prices
were also modestly higher.
