Texas beef and dairy cattle
producers, cattle feeders and markets operators achieved a
long-sought victory Friday, Feb. 1, when the U.S. Department of
Agriculture (USDA) announced that Texas has achieved cattle
brucellosis-free status.

USDA's Cattle on Feed report gives traders and feedlot managers a
monthly perspective of the amount of cattle that are currently on
feed, the number of cattle that are being placed in the feedlots and
the number of cattle that have been marketed since the last monthly
report. "This report is bearish for the near-term structure of the
market..."

The Brazilian
government wants to resume beef sales to the European Union in 60 to
90 days, O Estado de S. Paulo reported on its Web site, citing
Agriculture Minister Reinhold Stephanes.
