Victoria
County chosen as site for possible nuclear power plant
Victoria's city council, commissioner's court and chamber of
commerce have all approved resolutions of support for the plant, but
some local landowners and ranchers have reservations. "There are
many unknowns. We don't know about safety or environmental impacts.
We have legitimate questions that have yet to be answered."

European Union to introduce restrictions on Brazilian beef
The
EU plans to restrict Brazilian beef imports from January because of
"serious and repeated" failings in the animal health system of the
world's biggest beef exporter. From Jan. 31, 2008, the 27-nation
bloc will only allow Brazilian beef within its borders that comes
from "an approved and restricted list of holdings.''

U.S. beef

Marketing Committee Vice Chairperson Missy Bonds has completed her
tour of Europe traveling with a special delegation hosted by the
U.S. Meat Export Federation. The group visited farms, slaughter
plants, cattle operations, and spoke to representatives of the
industry about many different aspects of beef imports to the
European Union.
