confirms case of BSE
The Canadian Food
Inspection Agency (CFIA) has confirmed the diagnosis of bovine
spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) in a 13-year-old beef cow from
Alberta. The animal's carcass is under CFIA
control, and no part of it entered the human food or animal feed
systems.

disappointed with final energy package
The final
version of H.R. 6, the Energy Security and Independence Act of 2007,
passed the House of Representatives Tuesday afternoon by a vote of
314 to 100. President Bush is expected to sign the bill, which
mandates that 15 billion of the 36 billion gallons of renewable
fuels come from grain-based
sources such as corn.

died unexpectedly from injuries suffered in a ranching accident on
Dec. 7. "He was many things to many people, but to conservation
districts, he was our President, our leader, our friend and a man

ending Dec. 15, 2007, cash feeder steer prices at Texas auctions
were down sharply as buyers scaled-back purchases ahead of the
holidays and wintry weather in the Panhandle cut into demand from
feedlots. Higher feed grain costs also pressured the market.
