Report says stingy funding has put FDA in crisis
The Food and Drug Administration is losing its ability to keep up with scientific advances and its information technology systems are obsolete and unreliable according to a new report by a special FDA committee. The bottom line is that "American lives are at risk," says the 60-page report. more
 

USDA announces beef promotion board appointments.

Plans for Oklahoma beef plant shelved for now
Smithfield announced last October plans for a $200 million processing plant near Hooker, Okla., with groundbreaking to be held in January. Spokesman Lyle Orwig says it could be three to five years before a decision is made.  more
 

Errata
Yesterday's news item on wind farms from the Corpus Christi Caller-Times names the Armstrong Ranch as a party to the suit against Texas Land Commissioner Jerry
Patterson. TSCRA Director Katharine Armstrong informs us that is not correct. Armstrong ranch is not part of the lawsuit.
